Dr. KIM studied semiconductor memory devices (Ph.D.) and telecommunication devices (M.E.) and started his IP career as a patent examiner in 1996 at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. He examined patents and patent applications related to video and display devices, memory devices and telecommunication technologies. Dr. KIM has also worked for the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board(IPTAB), as a law clerk for a chief judge, and as a solicitor handling trials and litigation on behalf of the Korean Government before the Patent Court and Supreme Court. 




As a patent attorney, Dr. KIM mainly deals with patent infringement and litigation cases before the IPTAB, Patent Court and Supreme Court. In 2006, he joined Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), an arm of Samsung Electronics, as IP Group Leader. For SAIT, he led IP prosecution and strategy for acquisition connected with research strategies related to a wide spectrum of technologies such as next generation telecommunication, memory devices, batteries and biomaterials, by creating and also buying IP. During his time at Samsung, Dr. Kim filed thousands of applications in countries all over the world, including the U.S., and each year bought core IP for future technology development. For more than 25 years, Dr. KIM has been closely involved with IP prosecution, litigation and management and devising IP strategies for production companies.
